Animal Rights!!!

Almost all of us grew up eating meat, wearing leather , and going to circuses and zoos. Many of us bought our beloved "pets" at pet shops , had adorable kitten, guinea pig and kept beautiful birds in cages. We wear wool and silk , ate McDonald's burgers ,and fished .We never considered the impact of this action on the animals involved . Some of you might asked , "Why should animal have rights?" In his book Animal Liberation ,Peter Singer states that the basic principle of equality does not require equal treatment , it require equal consideration . Animals surely deserve to live their lives free from suffering and exploitation .Jeremy Bentham , the founder of the reforming utilitarian school of moral philosophy ,stated that when deciding on being's right , "The question is not 'Can they reason?' nor "Can they talk"but "Can they suffer?" The capacity of suffering is the vital characteristics that gives a being the right to equal consideration . All animals have the ability to suffer in the same way and to the same degree as human do. So, animals should not be killed brutally in order to fullfill the demand of human wants and animals should not be subjected to laboratary experiments to suffer. In fact , they should be protected by humans .

When I mention about animal testing should discontinued, I believe that some of you might argued that animal testing is necessary for the development of vaccines ,cures and treatments for human health. First, animal not only react differently than humans to different drugs , vaccines ,and experiments , they also reacted differently from one another . The most famous example of the dangers of the animal testing is the Thalidomide tragedy of the 1960s and 1970s .Thalidomide , which came out on the German market late in the 1950s , had previously been safety tested on thousands of animals .It was marketed as a wonderful sedative for pregnant or breastfeeding mothers and it supposedly caused no harm to either mother or child . Despite this "safety testing" , at least 10,000 children whose mothers had taken Thalidomide were born throughout the world with severe deformities . Clioquinol is another example of drug which safety tested on animals had severely negative impact on humans. Manufactured in Japan and marketed as providibg safe relief from diarrhea . As a result , some 30,000 cases of blindness or paralysis and thousands of deaths occured. Are these two examples just isolated cases? Even though pharmaceuticals are routinely tested on on animals , the Journal of the American Medical Association reported that 100,000 people every year are killed by prescription drugs and more than two million are hospitalized as a result of prescription drugs. Stop torturing animal in the lab and I will show you how the animals are being treated in the lab in a short documentary that our group had done .

Last Thursday , Architecture two students had been given a task by Mr Derick to make a short video on whatever issues we like , and our group , Hazman, Sabri ,Daniel, Ah Beng and I had decided to work on animal rights . Hazman edited the cruel and sad part of the video as Sabri find some facts and statistic about animal killing ,while Ah Beng and I edited the front part of the video and Daniel finds videos of animal killing as well . We started to download as many videos as we can from 4.00pm to 5.30pm . After having our dinner and rest , we gathered again and around 9.15pm we start to work untill 4.00am in the morning.Although we are extremely tired but we are satisfied and happy that we finally complete our video. What I am really grateful is all of us have teamworks and able to discuss without quarelling. Finally ,I hope you guys like it.
