Hi everyone , it had been ages since I last update my blog. Im here again to tell you guys about my second project of architecture course .
My second project is about Icarus and Daedalus, seriously at first I have no idea about this Greek myth and what it is connected to architecture, I was so confused and blur . After searching information from the internet , my confusion about this interesting myth gone. Actually, Icarus is the son of a very well known craftman, architect and artist Daedalus, in Athens.King Minos of Crete imprisoned Daedalus and Icarus in the Labyrinth to punish Daedalus for helping the hero,Theseus to kill the monster called Minotaur and to escape with Minos daughter, Ariadne. Daedalus knew that Minos controlled any escape routes by land and sea, but Minos could not prevent an escape by flight. So Daedalus used his skill to build wings for himself and Icarus. He used wax and strings to fastens feathers to reeds of varying lengths to imitate the curve of the bird's wings. Before they fly, Daedalus warned Icarus not to fly too high near the sun as the heat will melt the wax, and not too low near the sea as the waves will dampen the wings. However, due to curiousity and excitement , Icarus ignored his father warning, and flew higher and higher . The wax melted and Icarus fell into the sea and drowned.Daedalus looked down and saw the feathers of his son , he knew what had happend. He burrried his son on an island which would be called Icaria and the sea into which Icarus had fallen would be called Icarian Sea (between Cyclades and Asia Minor).
How am I going to design a tower or a cantilever that is related to the metaphorical and mythological of Icarus and Daedalous ?
